High prolactin level (hyperprolactinemia) is one of the causes of infertility in women and men.

And Prescription drugs such as bromocriptine (parlodel, bromergon) and cabergoline (dostinex) which are meant to resolve this problem are quite expensive, often come with various side effects and may sometimes not provide the expected solution

Well, it turns out that there are affordable and effective natural ways to reduce high prolactin levels without causing any nasty side effects

This article broadly consider the symptoms, causes, and the natural alternatives for high prolactin treatment so that you can get pregnant.

What is Prolactin?

Prolactin is one of the hormones that is produced in the front portion of the pituitary gland (anterior pituitary gland) which lies at the bottom of the brain. This hormone is produced both in women and men.

Apart from the anterior pituitary, other sites of prolactin production in the body include the uterus, immune cells, brain, breasts, prostate, skin and adipose tissue.

Prolactin has many different roles throughout the body.
Perhaps the most important function in women, is to encourage or enhance breast development and milk production especially during pregnancy and after delivery.
While in men, prolactin does not have any normal function.

High Prolactin Symptoms:
The following are symptoms that may suggest you have high prolactin levels. It is important you do a prolactin test if you are experiencing one or more of the symptoms.

High Prolactin Symptoms in women:
 Irregular or Lack of Menstruation
 Anovulation (lack of ovulation)
 Subfertility
 Decreased libido (low sex drive)
 Galactorrhea: Milk discharge from the breast without breastfeeding
 Hirsutism: A condition of unwanted, male-pattern hair growth in women
 Acne
 Osteopenia: A condition in which bone mineral density is lower than normal

High Prolactin Symptoms in Men:
 Erectile dysfunction
 Decreased potency
 Decreased libido
 Osteopenia
 Galactorrhea (breast milk discharge)
 Reduced muscle mass
Furthermore, In cases of prolactinoma (pituituary tumor), additional symptoms may include:
 Unexplained headache
 Poor vision
 Convulsion

Prolactin Test:
Prolactin can be measured with a simple blood test drawn.
In order to get accurate results, prolactin should be drawn first thing in the morning.

The woman should have had nothing to eat from the night before and should avoid any stimulation of the breast or nipples from the day before also.

Prolactin should also be drawn early in the menstrual cycle before ovulation. This is because prolactin levels are naturally higher after ovulation.

Normal Prolactin Levels Reference Range
The normal prolactin level range in both Men and women are as follows:
 Men: 2 – 18 ng/mL
 Non-Pregnant Women or Non Breastfeeding Women: 2 – 29 ng/mL
 Pregnant Women: 10 – 209 ng/mL

Note: ng/mL means nanograms per milliliter

Normal prolactin levels ranges may vary slightly among different laboratories. Some lab use different measurements or may test different specimens. Talk to your doctor about the meaning of your specific test results.

What are the common things that are really stopping couples from conceiving?

A handful actually.

But in this new post you will learn what to do…
For some couples, conceiving comes to them naturally with little or no effort at all but to others, it is a never-ending battle full of pain, sadness and frustration.

Does this sound familiar?

The path to conception is complicated such that you could unknowingly be doing many harmful practices to yourself than good, especially when your desperation is so high that you could unknowingly harm your delicate body in the process of seeking pregnancy.

In my practice, having interacted with a dozen of trying to conceive couples in the outpatient clinic, i have come to realize that majority of these fertility-challenged couples, even the learned ones lack the basic knowledge of their reproductive system and how they can leverage on it to become pregnant.

Things You Must Do To Become Pregnant:
1. Have Sex Regularly:

If you seriously want to hasten conception then better understand this, it’s not going to happen any other way than through sex!

You have to make out time for a consummate lovemaking affair with your partner for at least a maximum of 3 to 4 times weekly.

Other reasons most couples do not succeed in getting pregnant here is due to their ‘’over-busyness’’ and not being around their ovulation period, that is when the female partner’s fertility window is widely open for conception to happen.

2. Know Your Ovulation Period:
This directly follows the above point. Being aware of your ovulation cycle is the ‘’KEY” to becoming pregnant, it’s so important you have to put all your heart into this.

Without knowing your ovulation period, all your efforts to becoming pregnant would routinely be stressful. Therefore you have to really invest your time and learn this process. It will save you a lot time and struggle.

What to do:
Normally, for every woman with a regular 28-day menstrual cycle, the ovulation day is usually on the 14 day counting forward from the first day you started observing your menstrual period, until the 14th day.

That is your fertility window period, when your body is most receptive to conceive, therefore sexual intercourse should be targeted around ”2 days before” the 14th day and the 14th day of ovulation.

I hope that is clear ?

Other methods you can use to check when you are close to the 14th day ovulation day:

• Use free online ovulation tracking tool
• Check the texture of your cervical mucus secretion
• Get an ovulation predictor kit

3. You Should Do A Fertility Detox:
We live in an age where we are exposed to different kinds of chemicals, fumes, pesticides, bleaching creams; heavy metals and the rest of them.

And so, toxins emanating from these agents somehow find their way into our skin, food, water and we are left at their mercy hence, endangering our reproductive health.

Now for the couple trying to conceive, this can create hormonal balance and disrupt your endocrine system which helps to regulate and send out hormones at their specific target sites where they are needed, then spirally into different kinds of fertility-related problems in both couples such as:

• Endometriosis
• Polycystic ovarian syndrome
• Luteal phase defect
• Uterine fibroids
• Dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation)

Hence, if you suspect you could have any of the mentioned fertility problems, you should see a doctor and request for fertility testing to be done for you.

4. Eat Healthfully:
Heard you heard this popular health adage? “what you eat is what you are.”

When you are trying to conceive, your choice of food will play a huge impact in your reproductive health and will either foster or frustrate your chances of getting pregnant.

In preparation for your conception, all your usual staples and diet need to be overhauled to fertility-friendly diet ONLY; foods that will nourish and boost your overall reproductive system so to speak.
